Custom Homes, Outdoor Living, and High-End Remodeling in New Lenox, IL

Most construction projects don't fail because of the work, they fail because of how the project is handled. Poor communication. Rushed decisions. No real structure. We take a different approach.

Where This Company Comes From

14 Years of Hands-On Building.

Owner Colin Ettema started in construction over 14 years ago, framing houses with his dad. Eventually he stepped into ownership and rebranded the company in 2021.

"We understand structure, sequencing, and how small mistakes early on turn into bigger problems later. That's the whole reason we work the way we do."

Today, EZ Custom Homes is an owner-run residential builder serving New Lenox and the broader Chicagoland area, one job at a time, with the same person on the project from first call to final walkthrough.

A Different Approach

Construction Doesn't Have to Be a Headache.

You've probably heard the horror stories. They're not made up, that's how a lot of projects go. Here's the difference.

What Most Homeowners Expect

  • Delays with no explanation given
  • Contractors who don't return calls or messages
  • Big decisions made on the fly, mid-build
  • Job sites that feel out of control
  • Surprises in cost and timeline at the end

How We Operate

  • Clear timelines with real reasons behind them
  • You hear back, communication is part of the job
  • Decisions get planned, not improvised on site
  • Organized, supervised job sites from start to finish
  • Honest numbers early, not at the end
Our 7-Step Process

How a Project Actually Moves From Call to Close-Out.

01

Initial Conversation

We talk through the project, what you're trying to build and why.

02

Qualify the Project

Honest feedback on scope, fit, and whether we're the right builder for it.

03

On-Site Visit

We come look at the property, the existing structure, and the site conditions.

04

Clear Proposal

Realistic numbers, scope, and what's included, in writing, up front.

05

Schedule & Materials

We lock in start dates, lead times, and material selections before breaking ground.

06

Build With Oversight

Organized, supervised job site, with consistent updates from us, not silence.

07

Walkthrough & Close-Out

We walk the finished work with you, address punch list items, and close the project properly.

Frequently Asked

Honest Answers, Up Front.

If your question isn't here, the fastest way to get a real answer is a quick conversation. We'll give you realistic numbers early, not at the end.

Ask a Question
It depends on scope, size, and materials. We give realistic numbers early in the conversation rather than waiting until the end, so you know what makes sense before you commit.
Outdoor projects are typically about a week on-site. Remodels and custom homes run longer, we'll walk you through a realistic schedule before we break ground.
Yes. Permits are part of the job, we handle the paperwork, inspections, and coordination with the village so you don't have to chase any of it.
Yes. Changes happen on most projects, and we handle them through a clear process, written, priced, and scheduled, so nothing gets lost or surprises you later.
Typically a few weeks to a couple of months out, depending on the season and scope. The sooner we have the conversation, the better we can plan a realistic start date.
Who This Is a Good Fit For

Are We the Right Builder for Your Project?

We don't try to be the right builder for every job. Here's how to tell if we're a fit for yours.

You're a Good Fit If…

These are the homeowners we do our best work for.

  • You want a high-quality result that lasts
  • You value clear, consistent communication
  • You're planning a larger project, remodel, outdoor space, or new home
  • You want the work done properly, not the fastest or the cheapest
  • You don't want to deal with chaos during construction

Probably Not a Fit If…

No hard feelings, we'd rather tell you up front.

  • You only need small repairs or handyman-level work
  • You're shopping purely on lowest price
  • You need the job rushed at the expense of quality
  • You're not ready to commit to a real timeline yet
